Disabled Facilities

Lagan Valley Island welcomes all visitors, regardless of age or ability and is proud to offer excellent disabled facilities throughout the building such as:

Loop Systems

Lagan Valley Island employs two types of loop systems located throughout the building:

Standard Induction Loop System - requires the patron to turn their hearing aid to 'T' position
Infra Red Loop System - requires the patron to wear a necklace, which can be obtained from the main reception desk

The loop systems are in place in the Chief Executive Office, all reception desks, The Island Hall*, Studio Theatre and the Interview Rooms on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floor. *A necklace is required

RNIB React System

A talking sign system enabling blind or partially sighted people to be more independent. The system works by using a trigger fob. This fob may be carried in the user's hand, pocket or bag. When switched on, it automatically sets off messages as the user approaches speaker units along the route. Trigger fobs are available from RNIB

Braille Signs

Braille can be found in all of the lifts throughout Lagan Valley Island, which indicate the floors within the building. Braille can also be found on the Professor Pantridge memorial located at the front of the building.

Disabled Parking

There are 15 disabled bays located throughout the Council's car parks:

  • 9 bays at the front of the building
  • 2 bays in the restaurant carpark
  • 4 bays at the Arts Centre car park

Access Facility

This disabled changing facility was one the first of its kind in Northern Ireland. The large changing room, situated on the ground floor of the building, is completely suitable for both children and adults with a disability and is equipped with an adjustable changing table, adjustable sink, hoist-operated by pendant and slings to accommodate most frame sizes.

There is plenty of space for wheelchair access to move around the various facilities.

Disabled Access Lift

There are two lifts located in the main area of the building.

Dog Toilet Facilities for Guide Dogs

A dog toilet facility is located near the Arts Centre entrance to facilitate for guide dogs.

Buddy Card

The Buddy Card Scheme makes it easier for disabled persons to use Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council leisure, arts and community facilities. Some people who use our theatre facilities may need a friend or family member to assist them in participating in specific activities. This person known as their buddy would receive free access under this scheme. Complete this application form and return it along with a passport size photograph to our reception team.

Communication

We can provide brochures in large print or Braille on request. You will see at the bottom of this screen, we offer the Browse Aloud service on this website to assist those with reading difficulties, literacy problems, mild vision difficulties and where English is not a first language.
