Lagan Valley Island employs two types of loop systems located throughout the building:
The loop systems are in place in the Chief Executive Office, all reception desks, The Island Hall*, Studio Theatre and the Interview Rooms on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floor. *A necklace is required
A talking sign system enabling blind or partially sighted people to be more independent. The system works by using a trigger fob. This fob may be carried in the user's hand, pocket or bag. When switched on, it automatically sets off messages as the user approaches speaker units along the route. Trigger fobs are available from RNIB
Braille can be found in all of the lifts throughout Lagan Valley Island, which indicate the floors within the building. Braille can also be found on the Professor Pantridge memorial located at the front of the building.
There are 15 disabled bays located throughout the Council's car parks:
This disabled changing facility was one the first of its kind in Northern Ireland. The large changing room, situated on the ground floor of the building, is completely suitable for both children and adults with a disability and is equipped with an adjustable changing table, adjustable sink, hoist-operated by pendant and slings to accommodate most frame sizes.
There is plenty of space for wheelchair access to move around the various facilities.
Disabled Access Lift
There are three lifts located within the building. Two of these lifts are located in the main area of the building. The third is a disabled lift, located within the Studio Theatre. It has the capacity to hold one wheelchair up to 200kilos. The lift is mechanically operated with an easy to use joystick and an emergency stop button. The lift cannot be used in the case of an emergency.
A text phone is located at the Arts Centre reception. Visitors with disabilities such as hearing impairments or speech problems can text the phone with questions. A member of staff will text a response. Visitors must have their own text phone in order to avail of this service.

A dog toilet facility is located near the Arts Centre entrance to facilitate for guide dogs.
We can provide brochures in large print, Braille and Audio on request. You will see at the bottom of this screen, we offer the Browse Aloud service on this website to assist those with reading difficulties, literacy problems, mild vision difficulties and where English is not a first language.
