WOODBLOCKS AND PRINTING
Date: 07 March 2026
Price: from £98.00
Tutor: Julie Murphy
Date: Sat 7 & 14 Mar
Time: 10am-4pm
Cost: £98
Woodblock printing is an ancient art form invented in China, this workshop complements the exhibition, Revolution, Propaganda, Art: Printmaking in Modern China, on show in ISLAND Arts Centre.
This workshop takes place over two full Saturdays. The first day you will create your design and learn how to carve it into a block of soft wood, and the second day you will choose your colours and print your blocks. Various techniques will be demonstrated to achieve shading and texture.
Participants are invited to bring some simple images and designs that fit into an A5 format, for example simple landscapes, birds or flowers. Images that have at the most three colours work well (overlapping colours and the white page make an image that can have 5 colours). Avoid images with fine lines. All specialist papers and wood will be supplied and included in the cost.
Non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
